ZenBusiness Alternatives for Alabama Registered Agent Service
Reliable registered agent coverage for Alabama entities. Flat $99/year for the office address, same-day scanning of court papers, and reminders before state deadlines.
Two numbers matter in this comparison and ZenBusiness publishes both. So does this site. Disclosure while you are reading: Alabama Registered Agent.co owns this page and sells a competing service at $99 a year, so weigh the commentary as a rival's commentary. The figures are quoted straight.
Credit Where It Is Earned
The software is the best part of what ZenBusiness sells, and it is not close. Their dashboard pulls formation records, filing history, and agent mail into one place that works the way people expect software to work in 2026. Plenty of this industry still runs on email attachments and clunky portals built a decade ago. If a polished interface is what you are paying for, ZenBusiness delivers it.
The Structure
Standalone registered agent service from ZenBusiness:
- First year: $99, plus state fees
- Every renewal after: $199
Nothing about that is concealed. Both figures come from their own published terms. The issue is what happens when a shopper puts the $99 next to another provider's permanent price and treats the two as equivalent. They are not equivalent. One is an introduction and one is a rate.
| Years held | ZenBusiness | Alabama Registered Agent.co |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | $99 + state fees | $99 |
| 2 | $298 + state fees | $198 |
| 3 | $497 + state fees | $297 |
| 5 | $895 + state fees | $495 |
By year five the difference is $400. Nobody is being defrauded; the renewal is printed where anyone can read it. It simply gets read after the card is already on file.
One local wrinkle makes this worth settling early. Walking away from a registered agent in this state is not free, because recording the change costs $100 at the Secretary of State. A rate that doubles once the first year closes therefore hands you a choice between absorbing the increase and buying your way out of it, and neither branch is cheap. Deciding at the $199 figure rather than the $99 one is how you avoid meeting that choice at all.
The Flat Alternative
Ready when you are. Ordering takes about five minutes.
Order Here- $99 a year, and the renewal invoice is also $99. No increase in year two or any year.
- Same-business-day scans of court papers and state mail, out to you by email the day they land here.
- An Alabama street address on your public filings instead of your home address.
- Business Privilege Tax reminders, which is the recurring filing Alabama entities actually face.
- $15 per item for scanning anything that arrives which is not legal process. Nothing else gets added.
Where we stop short: we are not the cheapest option in Alabama and will not say we are. BetterLegal publishes $90, which is less than $99. Our rate is among the lowest published annual prices in the state and it stays put, which is a different virtue than being lowest.
Switching Off ZenBusiness in Alabama
Alabama runs this through a single filing headed Change of Registered Agent or Registered Office by Entity, made as the statement of change that Ala. Code ยง 10A-1-5.32 describes. The state puts no number on it. It goes to the Business Services Division of the Alabama Secretary of State, and the fee schedule in force sets the cost at $100.
Order matters. Sign up with the new agent first, because the form asks for their Alabama street address and you cannot fill it out without one. Filing in that sequence also means your entity is never on the state's record without a valid agent, which is the only genuine hazard in an otherwise routine errand.
Then cancel the ZenBusiness subscription yourself. Updating the state record tells Alabama who represents your business. It does not tell a billing system to stop.
